The Universidad de los Andes’ Anthropology Department celebrated its fortieth birthday, making it the oldest in the country. At this stage its members are proud that over time, our Department has always chosen to renew and revitalize itself every time it was considered necessary.

We think that this must be one of those moments. During the past year, the Department began institutional and academic strengthening processes, which lead to the addition of new professors to the institution, interested in different areas of research and teaching. We have considered, therefore, that our journal must reflect this same intention to change. Hence, Antipoda now appears with a new face, a new name united with the old, Journal of Anthropology and Archaeology, and a new editor.
