INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

 

Scope and policy

Bulletin of Earth Sciences is an annual publication of the Geological Engineering Curriculum Program, School of Geosciences and Environment of the School of Mines, National University of Colombia, Medellin.
The magazine will publish original articles research results in the different areas of geosciences. This magazine aims to stimulate the discussion about the scientific knowledge of the Colombian territory, resources and constraints. Both articles were published as specific analysis of regional interest, which promote the development of earth sciences

 

Form and preparation of manuscripts

Instructions to Authors:
The presentation of a paper to the editorial board of the journal must be accompanied by a commitment letter, in which the author expresses that the article has not been published or under consideration for publication, magazine or other publication similar technique. In this letter should also specify whether the article has been published in other means of reaching different memories as informative seminars, journals, reprints, etc.. Bulletin Earth Sciences; publish two issues annual publishing research papers, essays, short communications and diagnostic images. The submitted work should always be original and not be subjected to another publication. Anything published will be considered property of "Earth Science Bulletin" and may only be reproduced in whole or in part with permission from the principal.
The magazine publishes articles on, among other things, the following areas:

-Geodynamics
-Regional Geology
-Geophysics
-Geomorphology
-Georecursos
-Geotechnique
-Geography
-Environmental Geology
-Mineralogy
-Petrography
-Volcanology
-Stratigraphy
-Paleontology
-Harnessing and resource exploitation

The articles were published in the Bulletin magazine Earth Sciences may also be published in the electronic version of the magazine, on the Internet and in other electronic formats (CD-ROM, etc.) that arise in the future, accepting the authors Articles from these and other forms of virtual or digital publication.
The Bulletin magazine Earth Sciences assumes for the publication of articles "Standards Vancouver and Harvard" with the specifications outlined below.

Types of Sections.
Authors who wish to assist in any of the sections of the magazine may send their contributions (in duplicate) to the wording, with the understanding that this does not imply acceptance of the work, which shall be notified in writing to the author.
The Editorial Board may reject, or suggest changes if necessary, make changes in the texts received, in the latter case, not alter the scientific content, limited only to literary style.
The magazine will publish in each issue one or more of the following sections:

1. Publisher
Works written on behalf of the Editorial Committee, or written by one of its members. Its extension should not exceed 6 pages, typed, double-spaced; literature if any, should not contain a figure higher than 10 citations. This editorial should be made considering the Editorial Board for final approval.

2. Research Articles and Essays
Will such holding those jobs, dealing outcome of investigations or trials of environmental thinking within lasáreas defined earlier. They must have the following characteristics: Must not exceed 25 pages, double spaced, should take maximum 6 tables and 8 figures and not exceed 50 citations.
The criteria to be applied to assess the acceptance of the articles will be the scientific methodological novelty, significance of the work, concise narrative, as well as the literary quality of the text.

3. Communication and Brief Reviews
This section will publish short articles, faster. This facilitates that the authors present findings, initial results of ongoing investigations, reviews of books and even make comments on work already published in the magazine. The text should be up to 8 pages, 4 tables and figures and not exceed a total of 15 citations.

4. Image diagnosis. (Cases)
In this section of the magazine will be presented unique cases in which the image is resolutive. This will provide one, or at most two images, or cases diagnosed in any branch of the earth sciences and accompanied by a brief comment regarding the case.
The extension of not less than 15 lines written double spaced. This page will be forwarded along to another filing with the information of the author or authors, which is detailed below.

5. News Events
It includes brief information announced events related to the environmental issue. There is no cost.

Introduction of Jobs
Always be submitted in duplicate, and a half-written space in a single-sided, letter size sheets (21.6 x 27.9 cm), and leaving the following margins: 3 cm to the left, 3 cm in the top 2 cm to the right and 2 cm at the bottom. You must enclose a copy to work in computer format written in one of the most common word processors, (preferably Word).

The manuscripts must be accompanied by a letter requesting publication in the magazine. This should also include a statement as to clarify that the article was approved by all authors. Must be attached copies of permits to reproduce material already published.

The first sheet must include: The title of the work, which will always be as short as possible and, when necessary, be accompanied by a caption to expand.
English translation of the title of the article.
Full name of the authors, with the highest academic or professional qualification of the same.
Central / s where he has conducted the work and responsibility of the author / s in the middle.
A footnote will be placed a note that read: "Send correspondence to" indicating the name, address, phone and e-mail from one of the authors.

The second sheet will include: A summary of the work presented, as well as its correct translation into English. That summary will be around 200 words. It is strongly recommended care spelling and syntax of the English version in order to prevent further correction.
The summary should try to specify as much as possible: the objectives of the study or research, basic methodology used, the main results and conclusions most important and innovative.

Keywords:
Then, the authors must submit, and identify as such, in Spanish and English, between 3 and 10 key words or expressions brief to enable responsible for the indexing and cross-classification of the article to be published along with the summary.

The third piece will begin the text of the article. When appropriate, the last page of text may contain a note of appreciation for various collaborations, scholarships, grants, etc.. Which relate to the work submitted.

References:
The rules used within the text indicating the name of the author or authors (up to 3, and if more is put et al.) Followed by a comma (,) is the year of publication. The bibliography is included at the end of the article by alphabetical order according to the citation in the following order: Authors year. Title of the article, name of the magazine or book, volume and number, number of the first and last page.

Try, in general, to avoid references summaries, personal communications or unpublished. Work accepted but not yet published, include them as "news".

General rules for tabling
1. Numbers all pages of text, including literature.
2. For articles research results, they are abstract, introduction, materials and methods, results and discussion. In each section using sequential numbering in Arabic numerals.
3. Send two copies full (text and illustrations) of article

Tables and figures
Use letters, arrows, and so on. Type Letraset never manuals. They should be limited to the necessary minimum. They must be numbered and the title is sufficiently brief explanatory and without having to refer to the text. He indicated in the text, the place you want to address in the article.
Beneath the table, or chart patterns will be defined briefly abrogaciones used, if they are not standard. Make sure each table or graph are quoted in the text. The numbering and the title of charts and figures lies beneath them, as opposed to the tables.
Build tables in Word or Excel, TABLES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE IN IMAGE SIZE TYPE.
The charts, diagrams and photographs should be submitted (in the final version if the item is accepted), in separate files with image formats, namely: *. jpg, *. bmp, *. gif, etc., must be of good quality and preferably black and white. When the article comes to call, you can include only the images in the text in Word, numbered, with the title and placed in their proper place within the text.

Photograph
They must be of good quality and preferably black and white. In his back will come numbered with a title, and explaining their proper location within the text, or if it is delivered to file, image format: *. jpg, *. bmp, *. gif, etc., and must be good quality.

Other Considerations
He always keep a copy of the work. Each manuscript will be subjected to a process of peer review selected from a list of evaluators. The Editorial Board will decide whether or not its publication and suggest possible changes when it sees fit. All of this procedure shall be as short as possible.
The Editorial Board of Revista acknowledge receipt of the original and inform the author about his acceptance.
The wording of the magazine will do its utmost care to avoid errors in the final transcript of items shipped, however is not responsible for any errors that may appear. If the authors detect misstatement should be addressed as soon as possible to undertake the drafting errata sheet in the next issue of the magazine.
The Editor reserves the right to make small adjustments in the titles of the articles, abstracts, as well as minor corrections in the wording of articles and translations of the summaries / Abstracts, but the general policy to be followed will be the consultation with the author on these issues.

 

Sending of manuscripts

The artìuclos must be accompanied by a letter requesting publication in the magazine. This should also include a statement as to clarify that the article was approved by all authors.
