Memoria y Sociedad is a print, international, scientific and peer-reviewed journal edited at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogotá, Colombia) and has been published continuously since 1996, on a semestral basis. The journal is also published in electronic format, adopting open access principles (http://memoriaysociedad.javeriana.edu.co/). Therefore, no subscription is required, and any article can be freely downloaded.

Memoria y Sociedad publishes research articles with the requirements of originality and scientific quality. All articles are peer reviewed. Besides original and unpublished research works, and theoretical discussions, the journal publishes book reviews, bibliographical news and summaries of thesis (undergraduate, master’s and P.h.D programs) of the History Department of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.

Memoria y Sociedad focuses on historical analysis from a comparative and regional perspective. The journal intends to establish historiographical links between specialists in Colombian and Latin-American studies. It also aims at contributing to the construction of a complex historiographical view of Colombia and Latin America. Moreover, this journal publishes specific monographic editions on Hispanic American topics.

The journal is addressed at professionals (national and foreigners) in the social studies and humanities, whose expertise fields are Latin American, Ibero-american and Atlantic studies. Iit is meant for undergraduate and graduate students interested in historical research, and for the teaching community of these areas.

Finally, the journal publishes articles manly in Spanish, yet English and Portuguese are also accepted languages. All articles include an abstract and key words in English, Spanish and Portuguese in order to secure a wider diffusion of its contents.

Timeliness of publication: Memoria y Sociedad is published strictly according to schedule: on June 30th and December 15th new issues become available both in print and online.

International editorial conventions and editorial processes: the title of the journal is self explanatory. Scientific quality and formal aspects of all manuscripts are evaluated through peer review process. Once the journal has received the manuscripts, they are sent to the editorial board for a first selection round. The selected papers will be subjected to a double-blind peer review. The reviewers will fill out an evaluation form established by the journal. The manuscript will be published only after all editorial and quality requirements have been fulfilled. Completeness of bibliography is essential. The journal’s rules for quotation are an adaptation of the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition.

Archiving information: all published and current issues are always available in the online format. The university Library (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana), as well as the National Library of Colombia have the whole collection of the journal in print format. Our commitment is to maintain the electronic publications in perpetuity and to file the information periodically in compact disks.

Internationality: the journal copes with internationality through the diversity of the Editorial Board, contributors and readers.

Its abbreviated title is Mem. Soc., and it should be used in bibliographies, footnotes, references and bibliographic strips.
