INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Scope and policy

The Revista de Derecho Privado has the compromise to fulfill the general standards of academic quality. All documents will be sent to anonymous referees and will be considered disregard its theoretical approach, the author's point of view, or the method used. It will be consider the general standards of an academic research, having preference for unpublished works within the wide range of civil law.

Article's evaluation process:

All documents would have a preliminary evaluation from the Editorial Coordinator, the Editorial Board or the Editor, where the thematic characteristics will determine the pertinence of its inclusion in the selection process. Once the documents are selected for the evaluation process, they will be sent to two different referees, national or international, who can recommend the following: a) publish including suggested adjustments; b) review and send again; c) not publish. It there is any discrepancy between the referee's opinions, this will be solved by sending the article to a third party. The Editorial Board has the final decision over the documents that will be published in the journal; after reviewing the comments made by the referees.

Periods of evaluation:

The Editorial Coordinator will send the articles to evaluation as soon as possible. Referee's evaluation will be done within a period of two months. If the referees recommend not to publish the document, it will be taken out of the selection process. If this is not the case, the journal will ask the authors to review the referee's comments and include the adjustments they consider appropriate. This process will take two months, approximately. Once the journal received the new version from the authors, the documents will be edited and presented to the Editorial Board, who will make the final decision of publication.

Communication with the authors:

The Editorial Coordinator will communicate the Editorial Board's decisions by letter o e-mail. The journal will not return not published articles and will not give information before the periods of evaluation have expired. Not publish documents will be kept in different folders in the journal's archives.

Form and preparation of manuscripts

Each article must be submitted on a hard copy and on a CD (Windows operating system) to the journal’s address.  They may also be sent to the following electronic address:  revderprivado@uexternado.edu.co;   fax transmissions are not acceptable.

  1. CONTRIBUTIONS MAY BE:

    • ARTICLES, neither less than ten nor more than thirty pages, letter size, single spaced, typed in 12-point Times New Roman. Footnotes will have the same font, in 9 point size. In exceptional circumstances, works under or exceeding these requirements may be considered for publication.

    • NOTES TO RULINGS OR LEGISLATION. Comments on legislative news or legal issues, of both domestic and foreign interest, must be less than ten letter size pages, single spaced, typed in 12-point Times New Roman. Footnotes will have the same font, in 9 point size. Any required transcripts of the case law or judicial matter relating to the article are to be included in the ten pages. Two notes from the same author may be published in the same issue of the journal. The name of the author will appear at the end of the note.

    • REVIEWS on bibliography news, domestic and foreign; reviews must have a title and not exceed ten letter size pages, single spaced, typed in 12-point Times New Roman. Footnotes will have the same font, in 9 point size. Review must fully identify the work to which it pertains. The name of the author will appear at the end.

    • DOCUMENTS of interest, such as laws or proposed legislation, both domestic and foreign, resolutions by international organizations or any type of legal document that merits attention from the scientific community, may be pointed out to the journal for integral publication. If the article is published, the name of the person suggesting the subject matter will not appear.

    • OTHER writings such as in memoriam, selected pages , current legal news, information on seminars, courses, etc., may be published on approval by the Editorial Council.

  2. WRITING CRITERIA

    All items submitted to the journal (articles, notes, reviews), must contain a title and the author’s full name, including minimum biographical information (nationality, university attended, professional occupation; if professor, academic field, recent publications and any other relevant information. Articles, as well as notes and reviews must be divided in paragraphs sequentially numbered (which may also be subdivided), and must also contain a summary preceding the work.

    Transcriptions from another text made within the document will be in quotation marks, without need for italic lettering or any type of indentation.  Any work or phrase written in a language other than Spanish shall be shown in italic characters, which may also be used to highlight a word or phrase that needs to be emphasized.   Bold characters will only be used for titles.

    Footnotes are to be shown on each page rather than at the end of the text;  author name of the referenced work will be in capital  (versal) letters, displaying the initials of the first name or names, and full last name; then, followed by a coma (,) the book or article title in italic lettering, whether the book is written in Spanish or any other language;  then indicate  if it pertains  to a particular edition; following  specify place of  publication ; followed by the name of the editorial, year of publication; and lastly,  the page or pages number of the quotes referenced, without the use of the abbreviation “pp” or “p”.   For example: P. Rescigno, Introduzione al codice civile, 7.ª ed., Roma, 2001, 170.

    In case of any questions relating to style requirements, refer to published articles, or if unavailable, check the Style Manual of the Publication Department of the Externado de Colombia University.

  3. EACH AUTHOR WILL RECEIVE TWO FREE ISSUES OF THE CORRESPONDING JOURNAL.
