Scope and policy
|
The Latin-American Review of Social Sciences, Childhood and Youth, with its aim to open a wide Latin American forum on childhood and youth, is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary journal that favors the accumulation of knowledge about topics dealing with childhood and youth. It does not exclude any possible contribution from diverse disciplinary perspectives from biology or neurology, including psychology, sociology, linguistics or pedagogy, anthropology or philosophy. This publication appears in the Latin American arena mainly as a Social Sciences Journal. However, it does not aim at competing with any of the already existing publications in these particular disciplines, but offering a dialogue forum among them and emphasizing in contemporary and interesting topics whose construction require an interdisciplinary approach. One of the most important policies of this journal is its visibilization, which has been achieved through the inclusion in important indices, national and international bibliographic databases and through its users’ access to the full article texts, which, at the same time, is an important contribution to strengthening the spread and construction of valid and pertinent scientific knowledge in the Latin American context. It is in this sense that the journal consolidates itself by the use of the newest technological and electronic resources, which, concomitantly, allows its position in networks devoted specifically to social sciences and has an immediate interaction with the actors involved. With reference to this particular aspect, an own Editorial Management Electronic System, which takes advantage of the experience of the journal and of other similar systems being used in different parts of the world, has just been created and implemented. The journal devotes itself to strengthening and dynamizing some social science journal editor networks by attending national and international events and to participating actively in both network and real discussion forums resulting from these instances. As a result, its proposals have been included in discussion agendas and important editorial initiatives are being constructed collectively in the Latin American context. Revista Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, Niñez y Juventud is engaged in complying with the scientific quality requirements, criteria and standards proposed by “Publindex”, Colciencias, the Colombian national bibliographic index, with the aim to be in it and keep on its way to Category “A-1”. This journal prioritizes the publication of three types of high international academic quality research articles: scientific and technological research articles, reflection and reviewing articles. It also aims at gaining more exogeneity in all aspects such as structuring the editorial and the scientific committees, and publishing external as well as foreign articles. Another important feature of the journal is the acceptance of the plurality of approaches and methodological perspectives to approach knowledge objects in the research articles, thus being very demanding with reference to rigor, cohesion and compliance with the criteria by the corresponding authors. The journal also provides the international academic community with the full texts of the articles existing in the network. It authorizes their reproduction provided that the source and the authors be quoted. It publishes completely new articles in three languages: Spanish, Portuguese and English. Each article should be accompanied by the corresponding abstract and keywords in the three aforementioned languages. The half-yearly publication of a number of the journal is a sine qua non condition. The opinions expressed in the articles are the authors’ responsibility according to the democratic principles of free teaching position and freedom of expression. A.P.A. reference system is used by the journal. The materials are protected by the copyright laws and the authors themselves are in charge of having the corresponding permissions. Once the article has been accepted for publication, each author must sign the “Copyright Cession Contract”. Articles are submitted to anonymous evaluation by at least two consultants. The editors are engaged in maintaining electronic correspondence with the authors with reference to reception, revision, state and final destination of their productions.
