FLOREZ FLOREZ, Alfonso. ‘THE TWICE SEVEN’: BACCHYLIDES AND PLATO’S PHAEDO. []. , 33, 67, pp.53-72. ISSN 0120-5323.  https://doi.org/10.11144/Javeriana.uph33-67.ldvs.

In Bacchylides’ Oda 17 the expression ‘the twice seven’ is used to refer to Theseus’ accompanying youths on his journey to Crete. The same expression is used in Plato’s Phaedo to list Socrates’ companions in prison the day of his execution. Based on this occurrence, it is proposed that the Phaedo’s composition takes into account the Bacchylides’ ode. Arguments for this proposal are given and the consequences of this line of interpretation arise.

: Plato; Bacchylides; Phaedo; Plato and poetry; greek lyric.
