^les^aLa historiografía militar colombiana considera el año de 1907 como el inicio de un proceso conocido como la Reforma Militar y de la profesionalización del Ejército Nacional. Teniendo en cuenta lo anterior, se indagó en un punto básico: la educación militar, es decir, la instrucción impartida a la tropa y la capacitación de los oficiales en las escuelas militares durante los años de 1886 a 1907. Este artículo tiene por objeto conocer el rumbo que siguió el Ejército en la búsqueda de ese cometido. Los avances y los retrocesos en esta preparación se dieron durante los años mencionados.^len^aIn historiography of the Colombian military, the process known as the Military Reform and the professionalization of the national army is said to have begun in 1907. With this in mind, the article investigates a fundamental issue: military education, or the drilling of the troops and the training of the officers in the military schools between 1886 and 1907. Its aim is to understand how the army attempted to achieve this goal. There were both advances and steps backward toward such goals during these years.
