KINGMAN GARCES, Eduardo    GOETSCHEL, Ana María. President Gabriel García Moreno, the Concordat, and the Management of Population Groups in Ecuador in the Second Half of the 19th Century. []. , 52, pp.123-149. ISSN 0121-1617.

This article seeks to study the changes in the way population groups were managed as a result of the installation of the Concordat between the Church and the Sate as a substitute for the Patronage, during the administration of President García Moreno, who ruled Ecuador between 1860 and 1875. Through this, the authors attempt to show the other face of catholic modernity: the role of active religious orders in the moral and corporal disciplining of women, children, and elders, as well as the relations of these with other State institutions, particularly the Police.

: Ecuador; State-Church; catholic modernity; sovereignty; Concordat; social control.
