VANEGAS, Isidro. The Beginnings of the Democratic Regime in New Granada: The Notion and the Dilemmas Involved (1790-1830). []. , 58, pp.57-75. ISSN 0121-1617.  https://doi.org/10.7440/histcrit58.2015.03.

The democratic regime has a long history in Colombia, with traits that are difficult to define due to the lack of comparisons with other types of political community. This article aims to trace the language used and the underlying conundrums involved in the different ways of evoking the form of government based on the sovereignty of the people from the early 1790s to the year 1830. The nomenclature used to refer to democracy forms part of its own history, since it reveals both the hopes and the fears surrounding it, and permits an approach to the difficulties that continue to obstruct its path.

: Colombia; democracy; monarchy; political regime; republic (Thesaurus).
