PINILLA SEPULVEDA, Victoria Eugenia; MONTOYA LONDONO, Diana Marcela; DUSSAN LUBERT, Carmen    HERNANDEZ BOTERO, Johan Sebastián. SELF-CONCEPT IN A SAMPLE OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN THE CITY OF MANIZALES, COLOMBIA. []. , 19, 1, pp.114-127. ISSN 0121-7577.

Objective: To characterize self-concept in its academic/working, family, social, emotional and physical dimensions in the Bachelor in Basic Education with Emphasis in Physical Education, Recreation and Sports students at Universidad de Caldas, in the city of Manizales, during the first semester 2013. Materials and Methods: By means of the AF5 test, the self-concept in students of first and last semesters was measured. Through hypothesis tests it was determined whether there were any differences between the average scores of the students at the beginning and at the end of their academic program as well as a comparison against the scale using the ready reckoner was carried out. Results: Both groups of students showed higher statistics than those corresponding to the ready reckoner in all the self-concepts except those in the last semesters in the emotional aspect. Significant difference among the means for the physical self-concept, being higher those of the students in the last semesters (Pvalue = 0.03743) was observed. For the academic/working, social, family and physical aspects, the averages were higher than those of the ready reckoner (Pvalues < 0.012 in all the cases). Conclusions: It was evident that the students have a good level of self-concept in almost all the aspects measured as well as a high score in the physical self-concept, which grows stronger in the last semesters of the career. The emotional aspect is the one with the lowest score.
