SERRANO-MARIN, Vicente. Ethics, history and philosophy of history in Fichte. []. , 21, 36, pp.105-121.   11--2020. ISSN 0124-6127.  https://doi.org/10.17151/difil.2020.21.36.7.

The article looks into the notion of history as it appears in Fichte’s writings prior to what is known as the philosophy of history in The Characters of the Contemporary Age. The aim is to show how, fundamentally, that this idea of history is already present in the first writings and is coherent with the whole of his trajectory, understood as a system of freedom. This consideration allows us to conclude that his philosophy of history, and in particular the division into epochs that is contained in The Characters, is conceived from a moral perspective, quite different from the label in which it is usually considered in speculative philosophy of history and in which he appeared as an intermediary of Hegel.

: Enlightenment; ethics; freedom; history; idealism; philosophy of history.
