GOMES RODRIGUES, Laercio; MASCARENHAS COSTA, Emilly    HITA, Maria Gabriela. Right to housing in pandemic times: case studies in Macapá and Salvador. []. , 32, 2, pp.213-226.   06--2022. ISSN 0124-7913.  https://doi.org/10.15446/bitacora.v32n2.99756.

This paper compares threats of eviction in two Brazilian cities, Macapá (AP) and Salvador (BA), which took place in one of the most dramatic moments of the pandemic, the first months of 2021. It focuses on the Rua Beira Rio occupations in Bairro da Paz (BA) and the reoccupation of Baixada Mu-cajá, next to the Mucajá Housing Complex (AP). The paper seeks to understand how social segments that claim the right to the city, and already lived in a situation of socio-spatial segregation and under threat of eviction, dealt with new threats in the pandemic, empirically comparing the expansion of risks to families, solidarity networks and, finally, the action of public administration in these places. In both cases, residents are under pressure from the threat of eviction in a pandemic context, but cannot count on support from the State, which, for its part, puts into practice urban control precepts in more economically valued areas. On the other hand, the important role of solidarity networks in supporting the permanence of these social groups in their locations is observed.
