GONZALEZ MARINO, Mario Arturo. Mammary cancer: Registry at Clinica San Pedro Claver. []. , 20, 3, pp.144-149. ISSN 2011-7582.

Objective. To review the new cases of breast cancer presenting at Clínica San Pedro Claver, Bogotá, Colombia, in the year 2003. Material and methods. Recruitment of patientsfor this study was trough the Breast Conference, an activity that is attended by all new patients in our service. Furthermore, with the purpose of assuring the inclusion of the totality of these patients, we performed a proactive search by reviewing clinical meetings, consultant office records, hospital records, operating room schedules, and pathology reports. Results. Breast cancer was encountered in 207 patients, with an average age of 58 years; 305 were younger tan 50 years. Infiltrating ductal carcinoma was the most frequent histologic type, in 86.5% of our cases. Distribution according to staging showed that 61% were in stages 0 to II. Tumors measuring more than 2 cm appeared in 82% of the patient population. Conclusions. The Institutional Cancer Registry of Clínica San Pedro Claver provides the information on the distribution of patients with the different types of cancer presenting at this center. Breast cancer is the most frequent malignant neoplastic lesion at our institution, and the Registry provides information on the personal and clinical characteristics, and therapeutic modalities. The majority of our cases correspond to early-stage breast cancer. However, it is important to insist on the importance of a continued effort to detect non palpable lesions.
