ARIAS, Fernando et al. Pseudomyxoma peritonei: first cases treated by radical cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. []. , 24, 3, pp.184-194. ISSN 2011-7582.

Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare disease characterized by a large amount of mucinous ascites with peritoneal and omental implants. The etiology of the disease remains unclear; histologically, two main categories have been described: disseminated peritoneal adenomucinosis and peritoneal mucinous carcinomatosis. Traditionally, surgical treatment consisted of debulking that was repeated until no further benefit could be achieved. Although optimum treatment is debatable, now most evidence favors peritonectomy and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy followed by early postoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy within 7 days of surgery. We present the first two cases treated with this technique in Colombia and a review of current literature.
