Abstract
CAMPO-ARIAS, Adalberto. Comparison of some psychometric properties of the Zung self-rating depression scale with dichotomical scorings. rev.colomb.psiquiatr. [online]. 2006, vol.35, n.4, pp.511-518. ISSN 0034-7450.
Introduction: The receiver operating-characteristics (ROC) analysis is affected by scoring methods. Objective: To compare the ROC curve of Zungs self-rating depression scale using various methods of scoring. Method: A probabilistic sample of adults of Bucaramanga, Colombia, completed the Zungs self-rating depression scale, using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis I Disorders as the gold standard. This scale is Likert-type (1-2-3-4). For the present analysis were tried three ways of dichotomical punctuation (0-0-0-1, 0-0-1-1 y 0-1-1-1). Difference between the ROC curve for 1-2-3-4 scoring were compared with each new scoring using DeLong-DeLong-Clarke-Pearsons test. Results: The method of 1-2-3-4 scoring showed an area under ROC curve of 0,901 (95%CI 0.857-0.945); the 0-0-0-1 form, 0.736 (95%CI 0.648-0.824; p=0.001); the 0-0-1-1 form, 0.896 (95%CI 0.852-0.941; p=0.636); and the 0-1-1-1 form, 0.868 (95%CI 0.821-0.915; p=0.053). Conclusions: The form of 0-0-1-1 scoring for the Zungs self-rating depression scale has psychometric properties similar to the form 1-2-3-4. This method could be easier and quicker to score.
