The goal of this article is to identify the most frequently used discourse markers in a corpus of six of José Ramón Fernandez’s texts. He is a sports journalist who has an ESPN blog. The purpose of this research is to contribute to the study of discourse markers and the characterization of sports discourse, in particular Fernandez’s idiolect. The importance of this study lies on the identification of linguistic features in sports discourse. That analysis was conducted identifying discourse markers, counting discourse-marker frequencies and determining their functions. Our most frequent discourse markers were connectors followed by conversational markers.
