Abstract

TORRES CONTRERAS, CLAUDIA CONSUELO. Perception of nursing care quality in hospitalized patients. av.enferm. [online]. 2010, vol.28, n.2, pp.98-110. ISSN 0121-4500.

This paper assesses nursing care quality based on the perception of hospitalized patients in a last-level IPS (Health Promotion Institution). Objective: To describe the relation between the perception of nursing care quality and the socio-demographic variables of patients, and certify the face value and reliability of the instrument. Methodology: Descriptive survey with a methodological component that assesses the nursing care quality from the perception of hospitalized patients by applying the Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire (Cucace in Spanish), Spanish version by Rosario Alonso et al., 2005, version in English: NSNS (Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scales) by Thomas LH, 1996; based on the dimensions of experiences and satisfaction at nursing care. Results: Cronbach alpha coefficient stood at 0,90; as a result of the face value, all items reached the acceptability criteria in terms of clarity, accuracy and comprehension; the mean score was 66,14 out of 100 points for the domain of experience in health care and 72,41 for the domain of satisfaction at health care. Our research shows the relation among experience, health care and educational levels and the relation among satisfaction at health care and two global domains: Can global valuation of health care and nursing care be improved? Conclusions: The Cucace is a valid and reliable scale to assess nursing care quality. The patients of the Chicamocha Hospital have a positive perception of the nursing care received. The perception of nursing care and educational level of the patients are interrelated.

Keywords : perception; evaluation of the efficacy-effectiveness of interventions; nursing care; patient satisfaction.
