Abstract

MORAN, Ariel. The right to information as an integrating element for the formation of a plural State. Rev. Guillermo Ockham [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.1, pp.15-24.  Epub June 09, 2021. ISSN 1794-192X.  https://doi.org/10.21500/22563202.3183.

The first aim of this paper is demonstrate that the right to information in democratic societies becomes the element that can allow the balance between the spheres of political, civil and media, thus paving the way towards a plural State, and the librarian has a preponderant interference. Further, it establishes that the information, as a legitimate basic need, strengthens the development of participatory citizenship and decision-making, which translates into a better exercise of self-determination and autonomy, contributing to self-understanding and construction of personal and collective identity. The article is based on the theory of John Rawls’s social justice, and León Olivé and Luis Villoro’s cultural pluralism.

Keywords : right to information; plurality; deliberative democracy; social justice; informative pluralism.
