Abstract

LEITE CRUZ, Fatima Maria; MACIEL, Milena Ataíde; FERREIRA MONTEIRO, Carlos Eduardo  and  FERNANDES DE CARVALHO, Carolina. Reflections on adolescences and youths based on shared meanings by students. Rev. Guillermo Ockham [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.2, pp.23-30.  Epub Aug 03, 2021. ISSN 1794-192X.  https://doi.org/10.21500/22563202.3308.

This article discusses aspects about what adolescents construct on daily themes, establishing a relationship with affective development in adolescence and youth. Data from a study with 24 elementary school students in public schools in Paraíba, Brazil are presented. They participated in two focus groups whose data were treated by the thematic content analysis that allowed the formation of the sense nuclei: Leisure as a necessity; Peer interaction and socialization; Transgression as defense and survival; Digital technologies as social control; Discrimination, prejudice and social exclusion with emphasis on Sexuality and gender issues. The results showed asymmetrical power relations and the lack of more egalitarian and affective interpersonal relationships of students with their teachers. These results imply the need to expand democratic mechanisms in school; express that teenage students feel neglected in their needs, such as leisure and provocation to intellectual curiosity; that sexuality still causes estrangement; and that racial and gender inequalities are contested issues that need to constitute debate within the school.

Keywords : Adolescence; Youth; Exclusion practices.
