Abstract

ORDONEZ, Yamile Zuleima; LUNA, Carlos Andrés  and  RENGIFO, Carlos Felipe. 2-D VIRTUAL TRAINING TOOL FOR FINE MOTOR REHABILITATION IN UPPER LIMB USING A HAPTIC DEVICE. Rev. ing. biomed. [online]. 2013, vol.7, n.14, pp.60-68. ISSN 1909-9762.

This paper presents a software application for fine upper limb motor rehabilitation. It consists of a two dimensions (2-D) virtual environment, where motor rehabilitation exercises are developed, and a database that stores information about the performance of users during the training sessions. This article focuses on the theory and implementation of a rehabilitation exercise: guiding a ring around a curved path in a virtual world using a haptic interface. The innovative aspects of the exercise are: (i) the implementation of a force field with preprogrammed level of assistance to help the user to center the ring in the path, (ii) automatic generation of curved paths, (iii) and quantification of the user's performance during the training sessions.

Keywords : Haptic devices; Force field; Virtual rehabilitation; Curvilinear trajectories.
