Abstract

Within the context of the Liberal Republic (1930-1946) El Diario from Pereira and Vanguardia Liberal from Bucaramanga were the main referents of the liberal press in their regions. As part of the prominence that these newspapers acquired after 1930, thanks to the consolidation of the liberalism in the local, regional and national levels, their contents presented three different perspectives of their journalism function sense: as a company, as and as civilizing representative and as a political tribune. Together these perspectives shape the guiding role developed by both newspapers during those years and represent the basis of the analysis presented in this article.
