Abstract

JIMENEZ ORTEGA, Muriel; CORENA PUENTES, Edwin José  and  MALDONADO BADRAN, Christian. This article analyzes the armed conflict in the Caribbean Region and its insertion into La Universidad del Atlántico between 1998 and 2006. Based on the field of recent history and studies on the armed conflict, the way this public education institution was fractured in a social, political and cultural manner by the actions of the North Block and the José Pablo Díaz Front of the Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia) is problematized. The differentiated modalities of the armed conflict in the Department of Atlántico and their relation with targeted killings, displacement and stigmatization of student and union leaders of the Alma Mater, together with the forms in which these violent plots coincided with the financial crisis that the institution suffered are examined. The findings are based on different sources from State entities, files extracted from social organizations, and press coverage from the period under study.

Keywords : armed conflict; public university, social movement, Caribbean, Colombia.
