Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF), an efficacious immunosuppressive agent in the management of solid organ transplantation, has been successfully used in the induction and maintenance therapy of proliferative and membranous lupus nephritis. The evidence on its use in non renal systemic lupus erythematosus manifestations is limited and mainly based on case series and open-labelled trials. According to the evidence, MMF may be effective in refractory hematological and cutaneous manifestations, although its effectiveness in these manifestations has to be confirmed with controlled studies.
