Abstract

RAMIREZ, Tulio  and  ASTORGA, Clara. Why Study a Doctorate in Education? The Career Anchor in Doctoral Students Colombians, Ecuadorians and Venezuelans. Rev. colomb. educ. [online]. 2023, n.87, pp.251-274.  Epub Jan 01, 2023. ISSN 0120-3916.  https://doi.org/10.17227/rce.num87-13287.

The types of Career Anchor associated with the motivation to study a Doctorate in Education were determined in this paper by a sample of 185 doctoral students from Colombia (55), Ecuador (55), and Venezuela (75). The Career Anchor Scale designed by Schein (1982) was administered. The study found that the Career Anchors “Managerial”, “Safety” and “Creativity” are the ones that most reflect the inclination towards enrollment in this type of postgraduate study. The first is the most recurrent, which indicates that the students intend to study for the doctorate, not to improve their performance in the classroom as teachers, but as a mechanism to leave it and join as educational managers. The Segmentation Tree technique was used for the statistical analysis of the data.

Keywords : motivation; racing anchor; education; doctorate in education; high education..
