Abstract

BLANCO, Carlos Eduardo  and  GARCIA, Luisa Elena. Educational Research in Venezuela: A Literature Review. educ.educ. [online]. 2011, vol.14, n.3, pp.513-530. ISSN 0123-1294.

The article exposes the structure of abstracts of published scientific articles, based on a line of research into academic discourse on education; specifically, with relevant textual genres in this area. The primary objective is to analyze the internal structure of 194 abstracts of articles published in a Venezuelan journal dedicated to education. This was accomplished through micro-sociolinguistic analytical procedures, taking into account evident rhetorical movements, such as Introduction (I), Method (M), Results (R) and Conclusions /Recommendations (C). The outcome of the study, in terms of the structuring of abstracts, suggests a disciplinary component for these texts, one akin to historical- philosophical traditions and removed from the post-positivist traditions of the social sciences and the humanities.

Keywords : Academic discourse; abstracts; scientific journals; educational research; rhetoric; scientific articles; textual genres; research design.
