Abstract

The article relates the college dropout problem to academic literacy, which is understood as the level of development in reading and writing. It is constructed in three stages: contextualization of the college dropout problem in Colombia; reading and writing practices that generate learning difficulties; and the importance of academic literacy to improving the reading skills of students.
