Abstract

CADAVID-BERRIO, Juan Sebastián  and  LOZADA-GALLEGO, Verónica. Semantic Precisions and Thematic Contributions in the Narrative Structure of El desierto prodigioso y prodigio del desierto. Íkala [online]. 2022, vol.27, n.2, pp.374-391.  Epub Dec 01, 2022. ISSN 0123-3432.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.ikala.v27n2a05.

This article reformulates, from extensional narrative semantics and representational thematic approaches, some analytical categories that have been typically used in historiographical and critical reviews about colonial literary work El desierto prodigioso y prodigio del desierto. First, the fable and the plot are set apart in the narrative structure of the empirical text. A proposed chain of motifemes is also elucidated, with its respective chain of motifs, to test the overall systematicity of the text and the multiple substructures and discursive types it hybridizes. Next, a reconfiguration of the narrative levels that make up the internal field of reference of the fictional text is proposed. Finally, some of the main problems in establishing the generic projection of colonial textualities within historiography and literary criticism are pointed out, and the tendency to fragment and distort the textual uniqueness of the works is called into question.

Keywords : El desierto prodigioso y prodigio del desierto; narrative structure; narrative semantics; representational thematic approaches, plot structure; literary criticism, historiography.
