Abstract

GIACALONE, Rita. Venezuela in Unasur: regional integration and political discourse. Desafíos [online]. 2013, vol.25, n.1, pp.129-163. ISSN 0124-4035.

The behavior of Venezuela in Unasur can be understood from the perspective of the regional integration policy and the political discourse of its government (2004-2012). The first one highlights the objectives (interests) of that policy and how they converge or diverge from those of another powerful actor - Brazil. Analysis of the political discourse of the government shows the ideas behind its integration policy and also to what extent they have been incorporated in Unasur. Together, these factors throw light on the institutional evolution of the process of South American integration and on some changes that can be seen now.

Keywords : Unasul; Venezuela; ALBA; Brasil; integração regional.
