Nationalism has been a recurring theme in the study of politics in Russia in recent years. It has become one of the hallmarks of President Vladimir Putin's speech. This phenomenon can be used according to the interests of the elites, to mobilize citizens in support of decisions that safeguard strategic interests, and that supposedly pursue the national interest. In this sense, this article aims to reveal to what extent Vladimir Putin has instrumentalized nationalism to pursue his interests, and how this discourse has affected decision-making in domestic and foreign policy, emphasizing in the case of Ukraine and Baltics states to understand how such a speech can be used to govern.
