Abstract
ROMERO-PLAZ, Miriam del Rosario; LISCANO-DURAN, Sugehis María; PALOMO HERNANDEZ, Andreina and PADILLA-MARIN, Penélope. Morphological characterization of ceramic powders for thermal sprayed coatings manufacture. Iteckne [online]. 2014, vol.11, n.1, pp.93-98. ISSN 1692-1798.
The properties of the ceramic coatings are not only affected by the electrical parameters associated with the deposition, but are also influenced by the feed material. Characteristics as constituent elements, morphology, phase and particle size distribution of ceramic powders, and influence roughness and surface quality of coatings, as well as in the porosity, hardness and toughness thereof. Based on the above, the following study is based on the characterization of Tungsten Carbide (WC-12%Co) and Alumina-Titania (Al2O3-13%TiO2); systems used in obtaining thermal sprayed coatings. To do this, its chemical and morphological characteristics were evaluated using X-ray diffraction, Optical Microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy with EDX, which the morphology and size distribution were relating with the microstructural properties such as porosity and microhardness of coatings obtained from these ceramic systems.
