Abstract

FULLER, Norma. The Perspective of Gender and Criminology: A Prolific Relationship. Tabula Rasa [online]. 2008, n.8, pp.97-110. ISSN 1794-2489.

This article revises the most important tendencies in studies about criminology and gender and analyzes the results of several investigations carried out to discuss what have been the principal contributions, open issues and questions. It concludes that these studies denounce the androcentric approach of criminology, visualize female problematics and provide evidence that the dimensions of gender play a crucial role in criminal conduct and in the way they are treated by police and judges. Finally, the remainder of these investigations raises several questions: What are the dimensions of the differences in gender? Can we conclude that there are masculine and feminine patterns of delinquency? Should criminal justice policies be different for each gender? What new tendencies can we detect in this global era?

Keywords : gender; criminology; gender violence; police cultura; sex role; crime and criminals; violence.
