Abstract

CANCELADO FRANCO, Henry  and  RODRIGUEZ ARDILA, Valeria. The impact of transnational organized crime on the contemporary international system. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2023, vol.21, n.43, pp.628-646.  Epub July 01, 2023. ISSN 1900-6586.  https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.1179.

To understand the contemporary international system, the economic, cultural, and social variables must be considered, going beyond the political variable as an exclusive unit of analysis. Transnational organized crime clearly demonstrates this, since its growth in this century has been a consequence not only of the actions or omissions of the State, but also of other factors. This article aims to explain how the threat of transnational organized crime is currently impacting current international instability. To this end, the so-called second modernity is analyzed, the concept of global security and its current situation is developed, and the impact of organized crime today is studied. Finally, the issue of new technologies and their progress in fighting this problem is addressed, and conclusions are drawn.

Keywords : arms trafficking; crime; drug trafficking; human trafficking; international security.
