Abstract

SANCHEZ-RUIZ, Joaquín; LOPEZ, Elizaberta  and  DURAN, Jorge Alberto. They Will Shine Like Diamonds. A Buddhist Resilience Program in Arts. Pensam. palabra obra [online]. 2017, n.18, pp.16-31. ISSN 2011-804X.

This research, developed for two years under the project REMINE, Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020, shows that you can build resilience through art. We have selected the stressors from the Buddhist approach to life and death, the urgency to live fully, and to reconfigure our daily priorities. This has been structured in a program that combines situations to confront them (aging, sickness, death, impermanence, etc.), using art as a tool to express them. The concept of resilience that we have used is based on the strengths and creativity of the individual and encourages an appropriate collaborative environment (delving into the sense of self-esteem, confidence, humor, concentration, relational skills, tolerance, etc.). We have used the IAAR© test as a measuring instrument validated by the scientific community, with test/retest for our group and for a control group, in two academic courses at the School of Fine Arts of the S University of Granada.

The result has been encouraging and participants have shown, from their own experiences, their ability to communicate feelings through art, enriched in the crosscutting that provide the topics covered in Buddhist ethics, which has been in all moment respectful with their own personal beliefs.

Keywords : resilience; art education; art and Buddhist ethics; mindfulness.
