This article summarizes some findings obtained from the Research Project: Entre el qué y el cómo. Tendencias epistemológicas y metodológicas que derivan de los trabajos de grado de la Licenciatura en Artes Visuales de la Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, concerning the three axes that were identified as places of reflection: The didactic / pedagogical, the relationship between subjects' production, images and creation, and visual culture. The documentary and hermeneutic research, completed in 2019, carried out a bibliometric process on 210 RAE degree works to select a representative sample of 32 monographs, where the production of knowledge achieved in Visual Arts Education is investigated. It is understood as an emerging field that explores new ways of teaching and learning visual arts, with regard to the critical understanding of the meanings built from visual images. The study provided interesting understandings about the place of research in relation to the formation of a purposeful and transformative teaching's role, which promotes dialogues between the arts and education, in order to contribute to the construction of subjects and social fabric regarding the reality of the educational contexts.

Keywords : research; methodology; artistic education; visual arts: teachers' training.
