Abstract

SALINAS ARANGO, Natalia Andrea. The dilemma of soccer-related violence: between disapproval and complacency. Trab. soc. [online]. 2018, vol.20, n.1, pp.49-68. ISSN 2256-5493.

The article is the result of a research project whose objective was to identify the social representations of soccer-related violence in the Florida Nueva neighborhood of Medellín. The qualitative research based on the methodological approach of symbolic interactionism, which makes evident the relational, communicational, and situational dimensions of the phenomenon, was carried out using the case study modality, with an exploratory-descriptive scope. Observation techniques, semi-structured interviews, mapping, focal groups, talks with experts, and reviews of press publications were used to gather information in the neighborhood, the community, and among the actors associated with soccer.

Keywords : citizenship; public space; action strategies; soccer; social representations; violence.
