Abstract

The article analyzes the origins of Social Work from a gender perspective, emphasizing the contributions of Octavia Hill as a Social Work pioneer, given her social intervention with respect to the poverty and lack of housing and dignified spaces for the most vulnerable inhabitants of 19th-century London. It also highlights the theoretical conceptions and main epistemological conceptions, both traditional and emergent, that guided her professional activity and that of Social Work in general.
