Abstract

VELASCO GUERRERO, Luis Alfredo. LATIN AMERICAN DIALOGIC NOVEL: I, THE SUPREMEA NOVELA DIALÓGICA LATINO-AMERICANA: EU, O SUPREMO. Escritos - Fac. Filos. Let. Univ. Pontif. Bolivar. [online]. 2014, vol.22, n.48, pp.143-163. ISSN 0120-1263.

Latin American literature requires developing a pertinent literary theory which describes its variety and specificity. Along with that, criticism of Modern western thought should focus on recovering Latin American cultural heritage, which was ignored by western modernity. Therefore, the aim of the following paper is to reveal the dialogic structure of I, the Supreme [Yo, el supremo] in contrast to the monological one which characterizes western culture. Based on an interpretative analysis of philosophical theory and literary criticism, the hypotheses of the following paper avoids an "one-dimensional universe" in order to present a permanent shifting of texts (voices) that adds new meanings to the language, which is affected by the dynamic of western culture. Auguso Roa Bastos' work should be interpreted, beyond its most significant features, as being part of a universal and utopic project, in which the alienation of the modern individual disappears giving way to a set of new meanings.

Keywords : Novel and Power; Augusto Roa Bastos; Latin American Narrative; Oral Tradition.
