Abstract

Smoking is a leading cause of world morbidity and mortality. However, the most health professionals has not been trained on promoting abstinence or quitting smoking among patients. This article updates and resumes useful strategies for physicians and nurses from different level of assistance: ask about smoking, assess and motivate willing to quit, assist to quit and arrange a follow-up.
