Abstract

MARTINEZ, Nancy M  and  LIGARRETO, Gustavo A. Evaluation of five promissory genotypes of potato Solanum tuberosum sp. andigena for agronomic characters and industrial quality. Agron. colomb. [online]. 2005, vol.23, n.1, pp.17-27. ISSN 0120-9965.

Five promising Solanum tuberosum sp. andigena potato genotypes were evaluated based on their qualitative and quantitative variables (as were the Diacol Capiro variety) at seven different locations forming part of the Colombian Agricultural Research Corporation (CORPOICA), Regional Agricultural Research Programme. Univariate and multivariate methods were used for analysing the results to identifying which traits differentiated materials. The first four components represented 95.22% of total variation in main component analysis; the variables having most influence were: maturation time, time of year for sprouting, total tuber weight per lot, first-size tuber weight, zero-size tuber weight, fourth-size tuber weight, specific gravity and dry material. Significant genotype cf environment interaction was detected in yield and industrial quality variables which, according Kang’s phenotypical stability analysis (1991), would mean that clones 2, 7 and 14 should be selected as producing the best yield and being the most stable in terms of total tuber weight per lot, dry matter and fried yield. Clone 7 would thus be recommended as being the most promising new improved variety in terms of yield and stability index

Keywords : Yield; industrial parameters; phenotypic stability.
