Abstract

We characterized the bird community present in a gallery forest immersed in a matrix, originally of tropical dry Forest, in the village of San Antonio (Sucre-Colombia). For data collection methods included mist nets and linear transects. We identified 102 species of birds from 17 orders and 39 families Passeriformes was the most abundant order with 18 families, finding the family Tyranidae as the most representative with 16 species. The estimator Chao 1 indicated a sampling representativeness of 83%. The abundance distribution curves indicated that high precipitation periods presented a greater abundance in comparison to the low precipitation period; moreover, Columbina talpacoti and Leptotila verreauxi were the most abundant species in both periods When analysing the vegetation cover available for the birds within the study area, pastures showed the highest abundance of birds with 83 species, compared to the forest, where 57 species were identified. The diversity profiles based on the orders 0D, 1D and 2D, indicated that both, pasture and forest, presented the highest abundance of birds during the winter. In addition, 9 trophic guilds were found; the insectivorous guild was the most abundant followed by frugivore-insectivore. Finally we registered 15 migratory species.
