Abstract

CARDOSO SAMPAIO, MARIA IMACULADA  and  ZOQUI PAULOVIC SABADINI, APARECIDA ANGÉLICA. The Well-Earned Visibility of Latin American Psychology Journals. Rev. colomb. psicol. [online]. 2012, vol.21, n.1, pp.111-123. ISSN 0121-5469.

The article delves into the visibility of Latin American psychology journals in the context of open access. The rapid development of psychology at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries led authors to denounce the lack of visibility of Latin American journals, which, for a variety of reasons, were not accepted in international specialized databases. Taking advantage of the possibilities offered by the Internet and adopting the principle of open access to scientific knowledge, Latin America created its own tools for the distribution of locally generated knowledge, including the significant examples of LILACS and SciELO. With the indexing of its journals in a variety of databases, Latin American psychology is undergoing a process of transformation and seeking both its roots and international recognition.
