Abstract

ARIZA, John Fredy  and  ROJAS, Shirley Lorena. Does the School Food Program Improve the Academic Performance of Students in Ibagué?. Rev.fac.cienc.econ. [online]. 2020, vol.28, n.2, pp.143-160.  Epub Dec 22, 2020. ISSN 0121-6805.  https://doi.org/10.18359/rfce.4970.

This paper estimates the effect of the school food program (PAE, for its acronym in Spanish) on the academic performance of ninth-grade students at a public school in Ibagué in 2018, using information from Simat and the database of the Icfes Saber 11 tests. Methodologically, an econometric impact assessment model based on propensity score matching (PSM) is used to identify the causal effect. The results suggest that the program had no impact on the students' academic performance. The problems associated with operator assignment and program management seem to have significantly influenced the program's effectiveness.

Keywords : school food; academic performance; impact assessment.
