Abstract

PALCHUKAN-CEBALLOS, Geraldine; GAVIRIA-LONDONO, Cristian; GARCIA-HERNANDEZ, Andrea Lorena  and  LOPEZ-GARCIA, Margarita M.. Inventory of the species of the Dynastinae subfamily (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) from Quindío, central Colombian Andes. Bol. Cient. Mus. Hist. Nat. Univ. Caldas [online]. 2021, vol.25, n.2, pp.139-155.  Epub Jan 19, 2022. ISSN 0123-3068.  https://doi.org/10.17151/bccm.2021.25.2.9.

Forty genera and 262 species of Dynastinae have been recorded in Colombia. However, the knowledge of its diversity and taxonomy in the Department of Quindío is still incipient. A taxonomic synopsis was carried out in order to determine the composition and distribution of the subfamily in the Quindío region. Nighttime samplings using light traps were carried out in different locations which were complemented with visits to entomological collections and literature review. The Dynastinae fauna in Quindío was represented by 35 species, of which 14 had not been previously recorded in the Department and four of them are new records for the Central Andes.

Keywords : scarab beetles; dynastine; taxonomy; geographic distribution; Colombia.
