Abstract

SANCHEZ GONZALEZ, Elías Gabriel. The city of civil disobedience: the 2019 revolt in Santiago. Bitácora Urbano Territorial [online]. 2022, vol.32, n.3, pp.43-54.  Epub Dec 02, 2022. ISSN 0124-7913.  https://doi.org/10.15446/bitacora.v32n3.102369.

The article approaches the events and protagonists of the October 2019 revolt in Santiago de Chile. From the perspective of City Studies and civil disobedience movements, it asks about the resurgence of the ágora, and how this type of conflict entails a political productivity for the city. In addition, it looks at the currents and properties that characterize this type of social movements, the spatial references and the moral acts that configure an experience of cité, of citizenship, unprecedented since the return to democracy in 1990.

Keywords : civil disobedience; civil rights; protest movements; urban population; urban spaces.
