Abstract

MAZO ALVAREZ, Héctor Mauricio. Mediation as a Tool of Restorative Justice. Opin. jurid. [online]. 2013, vol.12, n.23, pp.99-114. ISSN 1692-2530.

Mediation has been proposed during the last years as a very useful dialog tool for conflict resolution and society pacification; it has shown a growing significance in criminal and penitentiary systems in Colombia. Mediation, together with restorative justice, is the response for a society willing to get rid of a highly crowded criminal system and a legal culture in which ethical responsibility and civil liability are confused most of the time. Mediation proposes cultivation of empathy in conflict resolution processes through dialog.

Keywords : Mediation; restorative justice; criminal system; victim; crime.
