Abstract

MONROY-VITE, Nadja  and  GARCIA-LOPEZ, Eric. Forensic neuropsychology, a contribution to the justice system in Mexico. Rev. Crim. [online]. 2017, vol.59, n.3, pp.163-181. ISSN 1794-3108.

The objectives deal with underlining the importance of the neuropsychological evaluation as a means of proof before the courts of justice, as well as the aspects relating to their necessary implementation within the scope of psychological assessment in Mexico, according to the validity standards of the scientific test, as established within the justice system. The Method used consisted of a systematic review of a variety of scientific literature, including magazines, books, theses and dissertations. In addition, results incorporate a wide sample of both general and specific neuropsychological instruments likely to be advantageously used by the experts engaged in the forensic field, by indicating which have been standardized for the Mexican population. With regard to conclusions, it can be affirmed that the neuropsychological evaluation is a very useful tool where it provides information based on the evidence, or on the cerebral, cognitive and behavioral functioning of an individual. However, in order to allow the use of neuropsychology in the forensic field in Mexico, specialized personnel in this scientific discipline are required. It is also essential that the bodies in charge of the administration and procurement of justice do actually know and appreciate the information deriving from studies of this nature likely to be obtained.

Keywords : Forensic psychology; clinical evaluation; psychopathology; means of proof and accusatory system.
