Abstract

URIBE HERRERA, Lucia; CARDONA FRANCO, Manuela; ARANGO ARROYAVE, Laura  and  ESCOBAR SIERRA, Diana Marcela. Manufacture of membranes sensitive to pH change for possible treatment of skin wounds. Rev. ion [online]. 2022, vol.35, n.2, pp.21-32.  Epub Apr 25, 2023. ISSN 0120-100X.  https://doi.org/10.18273/revion.v35n2-2022002.

The objective of this study was to obtain anthocyanins from purple cabbage (brassica oleracea) in order to use them as pH indicator agents in membranes manufactured from four different biopolymers for their possible use in biomedical applications. Efficiency and response to pH and temperature parameters were evaluated as parameters in order to optimize the anthocyanin extraction process, in the case of membranes, swelling and solubilization tests between them were also carried out in order to perform a comparison between them. The whole process was supported by spectra and absorbances measured by spectrometry, and behavioral tests. The results show that the prepared hydrogels have good indicator properties in the range of pH reached by the skin, adequate swelling percentages and solubilization times that exceed 96 h, which makes them useful for a possible use in the treatment of skin wounds.
