Abstract

ESCALANTE, Luis Alfredo. Pragmatic Implications of the Theological Discourse. Theol. Xave. [online]. 2018, vol.68, n.186, pp.46-67. ISSN 0120-3649.  https://doi.org/10.11144/javeriana.tx68-186.ipdt.

Since its existential character, the theological discourse has implications on the ways of being and living and, therefore, on Christian practices. This article aims to address the issue of pragmatic relevance as a condition of possibility for the significance of theological discourse. Firstly, it raises the practical demands that theology receives in the current public debate. Secondly, it forms the basis of this theological understanding, which is found in the revealed God as word and act. Thirdly, it develops the discursive and practical characteristics of theology. Finally, it outlines the challenges that arise from the theological reflection on faith as a daily practice addressed to a God who is merciful, liberating, and transforming love.

Keywords : Theological signification; Theological discourse; Theological pragmatics; Theological language; Pragmatic theology.
