Abstract

GARZON-POSSE, Fabián Andrés  and  ENCISO-GALINDO, Sandra Isabel. Clinical Cases as a Didactic Strategy for Teaching Metabolic Biochemistry. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Tecnol. [online]. 2023, n.53, pp.256-274.  Epub Jan 01, 2023. ISSN 0121-3814.  https://doi.org/10.17227/ted.num53-16266.

The metabolism of the main types of biomolecules and their regulation and integration is one of the most complex and important issues for medical students. The implementation of a teaching-learning strategy based on the analysis of clinical cases, along with its corresponding discussion sessions, could help students build a solid and integrated knowledge of this important topic. This research article describes our experience in the design and implementation of a learning strategy based on clinical cases, supported by periodic discussion sessions by students, who found the experience satisfactory, formative, and challenging. They also achieved better performance in the evaluations developed as compared to students that were not related to the strategy.

Keywords : teaching strategy; clinical case-based learning; metabolic biochemistry; medicine.
