Abstract

DA SILVEIRA, Clóvis; HERPICH, Fabrício; DA SILVA, Anita Raquel  and  ROCKENBACH TAROUCO, Liane Margarida. Hígia: A Conversational Agent as Support for the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic in Brazil. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Tecnol. [online]. 2023, n.53, pp.293-312.  Epub Jan 01, 2023. ISSN 0121-3814.  https://doi.org/10.17227/ted.num53-14121.

The current scenario in time of the covid-19 pandemic caused doubts and fears on the part of the whole society. The was survey carried out by cetic.br showed a significant increase in investigations related to the health area in 2021 compared to previous years. Despite the return of face-to-face activities, the fear of students, teachers, and servers regarding possible problems related to biosafety persists, as cases of occurrence of the Ômicron variant are still frequent in our environment. There are many sources of information and their volume is quite high, however, there is a lack of reliable and situation-oriented sources of the academic environment and necessary self-care. This situation can help to divert stakeholders from the appropriate guidance that may be lost amid so much information. The present work describes a palliative solution to facilitate access to information and support educational activities. He proposes the use of a conversational agent aimed at supporting the information process about covid-19. This conversational agent has its knowledge base built from selected linguistic corpora that contain a collection of information aimed at providing the conversational agent with the ability to answer questions about this conceptual field. The conversational agent, called HYGIA, was implemented and offers information services to support an educational activity. The article presents the methodology used in its construction and the results of its use from the analysis of an evaluation by its users.
